Taylor Swift’s latest album “Midnights” has become the best-selling album of 2022 in the United States with over 1 million copies sold since its release on October 21. The album has broken records on various music platforms, including Spotify, where it became the most-streamed album on its release day and achieved the highest album sales week since 2017.
According to data provided by Luminate, which contributes to the weekly charts published by music magazine Billboard in many countries, the album sold over 1.2 million copies in the first three days of its release in the United States alone. Billboard reported that “Midnights” sold over 800,000 copies on its first day in various formats, including streaming, digital downloads, CDs, vinyl records, and cassette tapes.
The album’s success is attributed in part to its popularity on vinyl records, selling approximately 500,000 copies in the long-playing format over the weekend. The vinyl records were released with four different cover art designs, color choices, and interior graphics.
Taylor Swift, who previously broke records with her 2017 album “Reputation” selling 1.238 million copies in its first week, has outdone herself with “Midnights.” The album’s total sales and streaming figures are expected to increase in the coming days, with the final sales figure set to be announced on October 30.
Billboard estimates that “Midnights” will easily win the title of 2022’s biggest internet week, with 284 million streams in its first three days being enough to secure the spot. As the follow-up week ends on October 27, the album’s overall sales and streaming numbers are expected to rise in the coming days.
